Symbol Design

Symbol design: in brief
One of CG’s most sophisticated services is symbol design. Some of these are bold and simple; others are more complex and illustrative. In all cases they express a concept with clarity.

CG has designed award-winning icons, logos and logotypes for a variety of cultural institutions, cities, towns and universities. It is a joy to bring a client’s vision to life through line, form and color.

Many unique approaches
For clients as diverse as the Ohio & Erie Heritage Corridor, Phlash cultural loop bus, and George Washington University, these symbols can be used as company logos, informational graphics, or employed in interpretive or retail signage.  They are sometimes purely ornamental or can be used to communicate a concept quickly. They are particularly useful in multi-lingual environments or where space is limited.

Designed to be practical
We have the expertise to create icons that are simple and powerful enough to work across different media—in small-scale 2-dimensional, large-scale 3-dimensional and digital applications — from business cards to billboards to digital screens. This is an essential requirement but something many logos and symbols do not do effectively.

A visual family
With many symbols and logos CG also develops a palette of secondary typography, fonts, colors and patterns. This toolbox can then be used for many uses, creating an identity that is dynamic but still cohesive.

Simple is hard
With the ability to make this very difficult process look simple, and because symbols have great power to engage the viewer, CG can add tremendous impact to the client’s communications.
