Spring Garden Connector

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation was eager to improve the connection between Philadelphia’s Northern Liberties, Old City and Callowhill neighborhoods and the Delaware River. The Spring Garden Connector, also a major transportation hub, required a streetscape revitalization plan to transform the dark and bleak I-95 underpass.

CG was tasked by the DRWC to design a system of environmental enhancements for the Spring Garden Connector. Inspired by the Spring Garden Greenway theme, CG developed an intricate, American Wisteria pattern and design for waterjet cut aluminum panels and structures. Part of a larger art, lighting and streetscape improvement plan, the $2 million project is a key component in the DRWC’s master plan goal of increasing bicycle and pedestrian activity to the Delaware River Waterfront.
