City of Philadelphia

This lively and colorful environmental graphics program was developed for a City of Philadelphia administrative office building. With a wide range of specialties occupying each floor, the graphics needed to be general enough to be relevant to each department and provide a visual respite from the stress of the job. CG’s concept was centered on what each of these departments have in common: city pride.

A standard set of icons inspired by Philadelphia art, landmarks and culture were created as the conceptual foundation for each wall mural. The icons were then mixed and matched, resized and recolored for each wall mural to strike a balance between continuity and variety. The wall murals complement wayfinding signage by acting as distinct and recognizable landmarks, which help both staff and visitors navigate the building’s labyrinthine corridors.
