Ohio & Erie National Heritage Canalway

The Ohio & Erie Canal brought the Ohio frontier out of its isolation, making the state’s rich, natural resources accessible to rest of the nation. The rails, trails, landscapes, towns and historic sites that grew up along the canal are the focus of this 110-mile long heritage corridor.

CG developed the Ohio & Erie Canalway name and marketing plan, then designed the identity program and guidelines. The branded sign system welcomes visitors and helps them to navigate and enjoy the region. Interpretive signs tell compelling stories and help encourage tourism, bringing more dollars to small towns. 600 signs have been installed so far.

Notable: Since its inception, $85 million in leveraged investments have occurred; a remarkable return on the National Park Service’s original $12 million funding.
