Virginia Gehshan contributes to “Design Downtown for Women – Men Will Follow”

The book Design Downtown for Women – Men Will Follow is testament to women’s outsize influence in travel planning, and the importance of understanding the experience economy. Virginia Gehshan contributed the chapter “Wayfinding for Women” which outlines how downtown wayfinding programs can welcome and guide visitors — both women and men. The issues of communication, creativity and convenience are covered. Statistics show that women have primary responsibility for planning vacations, so attention to their needs and concerns can result in a more sophisticated and successful wayfinding system.

David Feehan, the editor of Design Downtown for Women, was president and CEO of the International Downtown Association for nearly a decade. Other chapter authors include experts on marketing, transportation, color, parking, cycling and event programming, all of whom discuss improving the downtown experience for its most important demographic – women.
