Cloud Gehshan Design has been working closely with the Office of the Architect, Office of Facilities Management, Office of Marketing & Communications, and the Sign Shop at the University of Virginia to develop a cohesive set of exterior and interior guidelines for the grounds. The system will greatly assist in articulating a sense of place, asserting the University brand, and provide intuitive navigation for the large volume of visitors they receive daily.

CG visited the grounds last week to present the expanded overview of the design concept and initiate full-scale mock-up testing for key-sign types. In-field evaluation of size, contrast, and legibility at vehicular setback and speeds are always an essential part of confirming our design intent prior to documentation and implementation. The guidelines will serve to provide direction not only for replacement of existing signage, but consider maintenance goals, and be adaptable to the growth of the institution and many state-of-the-art facilities projects in construction and planning stages.
