Recognizing the important milestones of TCNJ’s evolution

The College of New Jersey’s academic tradition reaches back to 1855 when it was established as the New Jersey State Normal School and the first teacher training school in the state. Since its inception, TCNJ has expanded both its academic offerings, physical facilities, and has undergone several name changes along the way.

CG has developed entrance identification and interpretive panels for the Trenton State College Garden, a community gathering space created through generous contributions of TCNJ alumni.

Cut metal numerals and dedication plaques mark each entrance point to the Garden, depicting the timeline of each college name change. Interpretive panels further describe the important milestones of TCNJ’s evolution, and serve as a permanent reminder of the College’s rich history.
