Fifty years of growth at OSU has created a world-class university but has also yielded a campus that is difficult to navigate. To address the complexities of the University’s 3,000-acre, 400-building campus, CG developed an in-depth wayfinding strategy and comprehensive sign guidelines.
To understand the array of problems facing a variety of users, the project team conducted over 150 interviews with students, faculty and administrators. Wayfinding recommendations included campus zoning, increased use of the street grid, streamlined nomenclature and operational changes.
As a key part of the design process, major sign types were prototyped and extensively tested for legibility, scale, detailing and color.
Notable: The sign guidelines are also applicable to OSU’s branch campuses.
